Gabriel McKee is the author of “The Gospel according to Science Fiction: From the Twilight Zone to the Final Frontier“, and the blog SFgospel.com. Here are some of the chapter headings based on the origins and end of life, artificial intelligence and the nature of the mind and soul, and life after death :”Inside Data’s Brain: Mind, Self, and Soul”, “Christ, Prometheus, and Klaatu: Alien Messiahs”, “Believing and Knowing: Faith and Religious Experience”.

In this interview he discusses the how science fiction can be a doorway to understanding God. It is this which lead him from being an atheist to a believer. A truly incredible account from one who states that he used to believe that all religion was based on delusion.

What do sci-fi fans look for in the underlying heart of sci-fi? According to him, a sense of wonder that the universe. For him this meant that his type of rational thinking did not leave room for the “incomprehensible” which lead him to start looking at topics such as theology and mystical literature.

Although he’s got a lot of great things to say in this interview, what actually struck me as the most interesting was the first clip of a man stating why he thinks people love science fiction: “…For grounding -as things are always changing these days”. Interesting how in respect to this article that grounding of science fiction points to God and the gospel!
