This thing has been on again and off again for so long now. I was getting pretty excited when Chris Cunningham was helmed to direct until financing fell apart. Vincenzo Natali
is a solid replacement, though. Although his recent movie, Splice, left me a bit cold. I was hoping it'd be better. Still a very talented guy and great choice just the same!

Thanks for the comment John! If you liked this article you'll love my upcoming FusionFilter Faithcast starting soon. This article touches on just a few principals that sci-fi often reflects, sometimes without even intending to. Glad to hear someone likes Episode I.

James,

A great and interesting article.
For me I like Phantom Menace the best of the 1st Trilogy. There is so much back story revealed about the Jedi, plus Liam Neeson was awesome in the role.
In fact your article made me want to see it again.

Hi James,

Well this episode has special meaning to me as I live near Atlanta and didn't realize until I looked it up that there are game studios here.
Are you still doing the live show? If so when is the next one?
Thanks for your help!

Hi James,

Another great episode in the series. I really appreciate the effort you are putting into helping us to understand the industry and what is required to get the foot in the door.
I made a list from the suggestions for the portfolio and will put it into my sketchbook so i see it everyday.

The main reason the 98 Godzilla didn't fly was that it didn't act like Godzilla, it acted like a T-rex, more specifically the T-rex from Jurassic Park. And all the babies were the raptors. The film was a JP rip-off, so that soured many people, including me. I didn't want to see another version of J Park, I wanted to see Godzilla.

Flop is a subjective term. It did moderately well at the box office and was critically well received. Maybe YOU think it was a flop, which doesn't make it one.
As well, it was THE first recognized CGI film, so I don't find it hard to believe they would revisit it at all! It's a groundbreaking cult classic, and now they have the technology to make it look exactly the way they wanted it to back in the day. Plus Hollywood is stuck rehashing old stories anyway.
The story was silly, granted, but it's the fx that made it ahead of its time. I think now the story will have to count more than in the past. Fingers crossed on this one.
